Products review, new product, and hair stretching

As you guys may know by now, I love to use Shea Moisture products on my daughter's hair. Every natural is different so what may work for some may not work for others, here is our experience with this product. I usually use Shea Moisture, moisture retention shampoo or Shea Moisture  volumizing shampoo. I notice that she was experiencing a bit of dryness, so I attempted to fix this problem by moisturizing her scalp a little bit more, by doing so it helped with the dryness but not all together. So I decided to try their African black soap deep cleansing shampoo with tea tree and willow bark extract for dry, itchy scalp. Also for dandruff, eczema and Psoriasis. Within a couple of weeks of using this product I notice a drastic difference with the dryness , which made me happy. Even though she doesn't get those dry spots any more, I still continue to use the product. Why? you ask, because this shampoo can be used for multi-purposes like the removing of buildup, exfoliating and detoxifying of the hair and scalp.

Cantu is another one of my go too product that I use in her hair .

This will be our first time using this particular Cantu product, but it smells and reminds me so much of their leaving conditioner, which I apply to her hair just about every day before styling it. According to the label this product promote growth, strengthens hair, and protect from heat. What I'm looking to achieve with this product is more growth, I will do a product review once we include this in her regiment.

Originally I got this product for my son's hair but I will try It on her next wash and go.
Love Love Love this product and the way it enhance and define his little curls.

Secrets to healthy hair

Niah wore her hair in a protective style for two weeks and through out the course of the two weeks I co-wash her hair and moisturize her scalp. I then let her hair breathe so to speak, she rocked a high pony which I styled with Olive Oil Eco gel for two days. Last night I did a wash and deep treatment (no pre-poo regiment this time around) with an Organic Root Stimulator by the name of Hairepair nourishing conditioner with banana and bamboo extract. She loved the smell of the banana so I kept it in her hair for five extra minutes, a total of 30 minutes. I partially towel dry her hair and because her scalp tend to get a bit dry at times, I spend a few extra minutes moisturizing it with jojoba oil and a quick scalp massage. Then I box braided it and because I don't put direct heat on her hair, I sat her under the dryer to take some of the dampness out.

Hot oil treatment

I did a quick hot oil treatment with jojoba oil and coconut oil,  next I massaged the oils into her hair for a few minutes and then had her sit under the dryer for twenty minutes. After I co- washed her hair I did a protective style.

What are your hair goals

The overall goal is to achieve growth and maintain healthy hair for my daughter and myself. There are a few essential steps one must take to get to this goal.
  1. Patience: There are no magic pill or quick fixes to attain rapid growth. The secret to hair growth start with one primary factor and that is a healthy scalp. It is very important to maintain as much moisture as possible, you can do so by using moisture retention shampoo, moisturize your scalp a few times for the week, pre-poo with a natural oil, and cover your hair at night with a satin cap.
  2. ProductsWhy is it important to use products that are sulfate free? Sulfate is a salt or ester of sulfuric acid which creates that thick rich lather that most women desire. However it strips the hair of its natural oils, which can later cause dryness and breakage.
  3. TLC:  A little tender love and care goes along way. Every now and then it is essential to massage your scalp for a few minutes, a good massage stimulates the hair follicles, it helps in strengthening of the hair roots and nourishing the hair shafts by spreading the natural oil.
So remember to be patience and don't give up because anything worth having is worth working for.

Know your hair type

What's your hair type
The chart above shows some of the different curl patterns which can be broken down into three types of hair; wavy, curly, or kinky. It is important to know and understand your hair type. It’s good to know which product best fits your hair and which product your hair reacts to. 2a through 2c are wavy hair type, 3a through 3c are curly, and 4a through 4c are kinky. Curly hair tends to have bigger and bouncier curls vs. kinky hair which is smaller in diameter, coiled tightly, and tend to be drier. No matter your hair type, it is important to cleanse it with sulfate free products, personally I prefer to use shampoo with moisture retention. Do some type of pre-poo / co-wash regiment, detangle with a wide tooth comb, moisturize your scalp with any natural oil, pudding, or butter of your choice, and cover your hair with a satin or silk scarf before bed. WHAT IS YOUR HAIR TYPE?

Niah's hair type is 3c. She as thigh little curls that shrinks drastically when her hair is wet .
